Jeep Doors
The original concept of the Jeep was intended for military use as an all-terrain,
all-purpose vehicle. It was in 1940 when the U. S. Army called to create a fast,
lightweight, all-terrain vehicle suited to army specifications that will be used
for the World War Two. The answer came from the Willy’s truck company who responded
to this call to create the prototype of what we now call the Jeep. After the war,
the Jeep was revived not as a military vehicle but as a commercial off-road machine.
And in 1945, the CJ-2A was born. Its image resembled the original military reconnaissance
vehicle. This was followed by CJ-3A, CJ-3B, CJ-5, CJ-6, CJ-7, CJ-8, YJ, TJ, GPW,
MB, M38, M38A1 and the Wrangler as the predecessors of the former military vehicle
made available for the civilians.

As a utility vehicle, early Jeeps are not made for comfort and luxury. It is
made to perform as a full time 4x4. The ride is hard and there are minimal features
to see. And because of this, early Jeeps do not even come with doors. From the
CJ to the Wrangler series, doors come as an option. The reason is that the original
military Jeep does not come with door either. Doors are unnecessary with at war
and emergency situations. Doors main purpose is to secure the passenger on board
and prevent them from falling of the vehicle. At war situation, doors slow soldiers
to come in and out of the Jeep.
However, recent models of Jeeps are coming up with new way of providing a combined
utilitarian purpose with luxury and comfort. That includes different features
to secure, protect, and to upgrade the riding experience of the every passenger
on board. These characteristics are included to the new Grand Cherokee, Wrangler,
Wrangler Rubicon, and Liberty.
Today, the image Jeep models, except the Wrangler and the Rubicon, are far from
the original Jeep but the original concept of the 1940 Jeep, which is fast, lightweight,
all-terrain vehicle is still maintained by Chrysler to each of Jeeps model.
The Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Wrangler Rubicon, and Liberty now possess doors
to complete the image of a vehicle but retain the prowess of a 4X4. These doors,
although not included in the first model, do not decrease the attitude the Jeep
projects instead it add to the body and contribute to the function of the Jeep.
